Half a Week in Outfits

Alright, here we go. Getting back into the blogging habit. I thought I’d just show you my outfits for the past 3 days, which progressively got warmer and warmer. For Wednesday’s outfit, I was definitely feeling a more dressy outfit with dark colors to compliment the overcast and foggy weather. These are the best pictures I took of my sleep deprived self – I hadn’t had my coffee yet.

On top I am wearing this very loose and flowy shirt – it’s basically a circle skirt but with sleeves. I love wearing this because of the variety of ways you can drape it over your torso. On bottom I’m wearing a simple grey sweater skirt thats form fitting, so as to contrast with the looseness of my top. And then I’m just wearing sheer black tights and black flats, because I feel like sweater skirts/dresses look much better against tights than against bare legs. Over everything I am wearing a beige trench coat, and leaving it unbuttoned so that the outfit can peek through.

Wednesday afternoon, I was fortunate to stumble upon a thrift sale table that was using the proceeds to pay for a service trip to Honduras.

I left with two items: A ruffled, light-pink chiffon blouse, and high waisted black shorts. The next day, I made an outfit out of them:

I really love the buttons on the shorts, and I had the perfect light-green jean jacket to go with the top. I went for a very springy, soft toned look, and kept it as simple as possible.

On to today, I was going for a more grungy, sophisticated look, if you can use both those words in one sentence. Also, I’m patting myself on the back for making my ear look like a solar system. Or at least that’s how I see it…

On top I am wearing a purple, acid-wash t-shirt from Cotton On, and dark wash skinny jeans which I rolled up. I am really loving acid-wash right now – it makes the material so soft, and adds a minimal amount of grunge to an outfit. I wanted to keep this outfit simple as well, so I wore a gold leaf necklace from Aerie, and for styling purposes, a brown faux leather jacket.

Thanks for reading! Stay tuned for more outfits of the day!

M.I.A.

I apologize for being M.I.A. for much too long. Life get’s busy. Though I’m going to start posting new stuff soon. I’m actually working for another blog right now, so I technically haven’t stopped blogging all together. If you’re curious to see what I’ve been doing lately, or interested in college fashion, visit Trend Magazine’s fashion blog 🙂 Not all of the photos/interviews are mine, but I have contributed some. Thanks for reading!

Warby Parker Review

Recently, Warby Parker asked me to review their newest Spring and Palm Canyon collections, so that is what this post shall be about! I had never heard of Warby Parker, but once I checked out their website, the way they conducted business sounded familiar to me. Turns out my boyfriend had actually tried their products before. Warby Parker is basically an online eyeglasses/sunglasses shop – both prescription and non-prescription. What I thought was cool is that they send you samples to try on at home for a few days to mimic the feeling of actually trying on glasses at a store. You’re allowed 5 samples, I believe, because you can’t always trust that things on a model are going to look the same on you. In addition, when you purchase a pair of their glasses, they donate a pair to someone in need through their non-profit partners.

As for their Spring Collection, I am really loving the different color options they provide. In fact, I am in love with the Quimby sunglasses in Absinthe.

I think that these are so stylish and unique for the spring! I love the vintage shape to them, but I am mostly sold on their green color.

Here is another one of my favorites:

And some models styling the Spring Collection, to get an idea of how they look on.

They have quite the hipster, coffee shop, entrepreneur look to them, and are very trendy in my opinion. As for the Palm Canyon Collection, I’m not a particularly huge fan of this style, but I do think they are fairly chic.

This wooden frame trend is still in its early stages, but I think it still has high potential. I saw some vendors selling similar shades on campus, so I wouldn’t be surprised if this look starts hitting stores soon.

In addition to the wooden style frames, they have a a frame called Red Canyon that I think is very business woman chic.

The shape is very professional and sleek, not too distracting, yet appealing to the eye (ah see how punny I am).

So that is my review of Warby Parker! I have never personally tried their products, but from reviewing their website and images, I can say that I really like their style 🙂

Preppy OOTD

Preppy OOTD

Not sure where I got the motivation from to actually dress up on a Saturday, but it happened. Also, I rarely dress preppy; but I wanted to try this new black and white chevron skirt I got for Christmas. I really love nautical colors, so over a simple black tank top I am wearing a thrifted navy blue cardigan, fastened with a coral pink belt.

I’m not big on chevron, but I really like the way this skirt falls so that it makes the pattern overlap. So there you have it, my OOTD 🙂

Urban Flower: OOTD

Urban Flower: OOTD

I know the majority of us avoid wearing the skinny jeans, and instead go for leggings; but sometimes that dark denim really makes an outfit. I think skinny jeans look especially good with flowy tops and minimal shoes. In this case, I paired them with a loose floral top from Urban Outfitters, maroon Pesaro ankle booties, and a vintage pearl necklace.

I think this outfit gives off a chic, urban chick vibe! I wore a brown leather jacket on top, but forgot to take a picture. Overall, it’s a pretty simple outfit to put together, and it makes me feel a lot more confident going about my business.

Have a great Friday night 🙂

Spring Outfits: Tribal print, Florals, and Pastels!

Today I’d like to share some key pieces for the spring! Starting off, we have tribal prints. I personally love this style, mostly because of how versatile it is. Tribal print has made it’s way through every season, and I have a hunch that it isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. As winter progresses into spring, here is how you can continue wearing tribal prints:

Image

Fold up your tribal print cardigans and sweaters and add some bright printed skirts and dresses to your wardrobe! These are great items that’ll last their way through summer and fall.

Next item: Florals. I love anything with flowers on it, and I can see this coming spring season exploding in a flower craze. For now, start with simple patterns like this here top Maxine is wearing:

Onto Pastels! Pastels are no doubt going to remain a spring staple for a long time, so no hurt in getting some now! Here is a potential Valentine’s Day outfit:

Can I just say that this turquoise/teal color is my all time favorite color. And mixed with white lace – perfect!

That is all! Comment below which outfit is your favorite 🙂

Simple Early Spring Outfits

I realize that it is no where near the official period of Spring, but the weather does what it wants to do. Plus, there’s no harm in planning for the coming season. After wearing dark clothing for the majority of winter, I’m finally bringing out my brighter colors! Here is what I wore today:

Image

I’m slowly easing my way into spring clothing – nothing extravagant, just a simple white tee with a floral skirt. For shoes, I wore grey slip-ons, similar to Tom’s, to highlight the grey hues in my skirt. On top I am wearing a thrifted Forever 21 faux leather jacket to give an overall earthy feel to the outfit. As in my interview outfit, I am wearing my gold collar necklace; it really pulls an outfit together 🙂

Now for Cindy, who is wearing pink pastels with grey pants – perfect colors for transitioning from winter into spring. My advice: try wearing grey or brown instead of black. Pantone’s “Fashion Color Report Spring 2014” says to try mixing pastels with bright colors. I can’t wait to try it out!

Also, I finally tested out my new gorilla pod with an iPhone 5 adapter. It’s magnificent.

That’s all for today! Thanks for reading 🙂
