Half a Week in Outfits

Alright, here we go. Getting back into the blogging habit. I thought I’d just show you my outfits for the past 3 days, which progressively got warmer and warmer. For Wednesday’s outfit, I was definitely feeling a more dressy outfit with dark colors to compliment the overcast and foggy weather. These are the best pictures I took of my sleep deprived self – I hadn’t had my coffee yet.

On top I am wearing this very loose and flowy shirt – it’s basically a circle skirt but with sleeves. I love wearing this because of the variety of ways you can drape it over your torso. On bottom I’m wearing a simple grey sweater skirt thats form fitting, so as to contrast with the looseness of my top. And then I’m just wearing sheer black tights and black flats, because I feel like sweater skirts/dresses look much better against tights than against bare legs. Over everything I am wearing a beige trench coat, and leaving it unbuttoned so that the outfit can peek through.

Wednesday afternoon, I was fortunate to stumble upon a thrift sale table that was using the proceeds to pay for a service trip to Honduras.

I left with two items: A ruffled, light-pink chiffon blouse, and high waisted black shorts. The next day, I made an outfit out of them:

I really love the buttons on the shorts, and I had the perfect light-green jean jacket to go with the top. I went for a very springy, soft toned look, and kept it as simple as possible.

On to today, I was going for a more grungy, sophisticated look, if you can use both those words in one sentence. Also, I’m patting myself on the back for making my ear look like a solar system. Or at least that’s how I see it…

ย Image

On top I am wearing a purple, acid-wash t-shirt from Cotton On, and dark wash skinny jeans which I rolled up. I am really loving acid-wash right now – it makes the material so soft, and adds a minimal amount of grunge to an outfit. I wanted to keep this outfit simple as well, so I wore a gold leaf necklace from Aerie, and for styling purposes, a brown faux leather jacket.

Thanks for reading! Stay tuned for more outfits of the day!

Interview Outfits – Winter Collection

Welcome to a special edition of interview outfits! That sounded pretty important didn’t it? Well, interviews are kind of a big deal. As much as we wish it could be otherwise, interviews are all based on first impressions. You want to wear something conservative, yet memorable. Here are two of my selected interview outfits, created from classic winter pieces:

First, we have a tribal print shift dress. I know mine is a tad bit short, but a shift dress is great for formal meetings, as it doesn’t show off the body. That is normally a negative aspect when choosing clothing. You’re supposed to show off your body right? Well, unless the job you are applying to requires this, it’s better to focus at the task at hand: showing off your personality, not your body.

Image

I added a gold collar necklace to accentuate the neckline, and tan heels to add a nice balance to the dress. Necklace, dress, and shoes are from Forever 21 ๐Ÿ™‚Image

Here is my second outfit choice, something a little more memorable:

Image

I went for a more school-girl type of look, playing around with winter shades. I absolutely love the way this off-white sweater looks with a school uniform-style skirt and navy blue tights. I wore suede Mary Jane shoes to make the outfit look even more preppy. If you don’t want to look too formal for an interview, try being preppy. Though it may not be as fancy, it still has a polished and neat look to it.

Every interview is differentโ€ฆI know my style may not cater to everyone ๐Ÿ™‚ But I hope this was of some inspiration anyway! Happy Hump Day!

New Year, New Me

Just kidding. I’m still the same. I went to the gym earlier today, and for a Tuesday morning, it was pretty packed. It’s the whole “New year, new me” enthusiasm affecting everyone. I admit, it affects me to. But let’s be honest: most of those promises of self-improvement are slowly shoved under the rug as the year drags on. In my opinion, you don’t need a new year to start your journey of self-improvement. Start whenever you want. Don’t start at all. Be reasonable. You have the entire year to fulfill your “new year’s resolution,” so take it in steps. My goal is to tackle procrastination, but that’s not going to happen within a few days. As much as you desire to change yourself into a “new person,” that’s not going to happen. Rather, I see it as “adding to yourself,” or gaining new attributes to your character. Instead of running away from your old self, add to yourself. There is my mini rant of inspiration for the day. Onto some fashion! I recently acquired this dress from Forever 21; I instantly recognized it from Bethany Mota’s New Year’s Eve outfit video. It fits very nicely, and the material is surprisingly decent for Forever 21.

I love this dress because it is instantly the highlight of the outfit and doesn’t need anything to really accentuate it (except maybe some color).Image

Girls’ Night Out – Holiday Shopping

Unless you’re the type of person who does their holiday shopping mid-summer, the mad rush of shopping has just begun. Stores are preparing for the notorious Black Friday and Cyber Monday, malls are playing the Carol of the Bells, and Bath and Body Works has all their Christmas scents lined up. There is a sort of hype in the air; an excitement, a warmth. If you plan on participating in the chaos that is Black Friday, or leftover Saturday, take some friends along, and dress up! Here are two outfit ideas for a girls’ night out of holiday shopping:

Image

First and foremost: wear comfortable shoes. I prefer my combat boots. In addition, I am wearing one of my favorite summer dresses turned fall with my cut-out black tights and burnt orange cardigan. To add that touch of class, I am wearing my pearl necklace (always does the trick). Rebecca is wearing this great maroon and dark navy top from Target, black leggings, a gold collar necklace, and a gold dragon ear-cuff.

So there you have it: two different takes on fall outfits. I hope this is of some inspiration for the holidays ๐Ÿ™‚

I’m Back!

I spent about a week in El Paso, TX, delaying any posts I had originally planned to do. I didn’t have my laptop with me, so I couldn’t do any blogging! But now I’m back, and with new fashion finds. I have a lot of outfits planned, so stay tuned. Plus: a senior photo shoot! This week is going to be busy.

Vintage Summer Outfits

I have a feeling that vintage-inspired clothing will never quite go out of style (at least for a while). The appearance itself gives off a classy vibe that has just as much power as wearing something of modern formality. It gives off a sense of age and intelligence. Here once again, are my two models, looking lovely as ever.

We Ride Horses

Here is Part 2 of my photo shoot with Paige Ridly! After a somewhat tedious outfit change, we decided to change locations to the rodeo arena. We observed a girl being trained to ride a horse, and marveled at the intensity of the trainer. We agreed that we could never do that, but decided to assume the identities of horse riders anyway. Hence the title. Once again, Paige amazes me with her wardrobe. Enjoy!

This is possibly the cutest crop top I have ever seen. Unfortunately, she got it at Laguna Beach, which I am not visiting any time soon. This would be a great outfit to wear to an interview, dinner party, or any other formal occasion over the summer.
